Candles can be harmful too

Candles are used frequently in our houses. Reasons for using them may differ, it could be due to power cut or a candle lit dinner. Did you ever know that burning candles contribute towards polluting the air? It sounds strange but the fact is that even candles produce harmful air pollutants. Thankfully, air purifiers keep our environment healthy.

A burning candle does produce health hazards. The severity of these hazards will depend upon the chemicals used while making candles. Scientific testing has proved that candles can discharge pollutants such as acetone, benzene, lead, soot and particulate matter. These chemicals are used for making the internal structure and for the wax composition of a candle. The colour and scent added in the candle also cause the pollution of the air. To sustain the flame and draw the wax towards the heat source, a combustible string of fiber is used. Sometimes structures of candles are made using lead-core metal so that the candle would not collapse when the wax melts. This lead–core mixes with the air when burnt making the air polluted. The quality of wax used for making candles also plays a pivotal role in making the air unhealthy. Using air cleaners will keep your indoor air clean and healthy.
